About Doug Butler
Doug Butler is an internationally known farrier
and professor with over 40 years of practical teaching experience.
He writes
about, teaches and practices the farrier’s craft. He has
devoted his life to studying problems associated with horse foot
care and simplifying essential information into usable solutions
that can be shared and used by fellow horse professionals. He is
dedicated to excellence in horse foot care.
Doug has written a half-dozen books on the
subject of horseshoeing, including The Principles of Horseshoeing
(P3), the most widely
used book in the world on the subject of farriery. He is an author,
speaker, coach and consultant who has helped horse owners, corporations
and equine organizations in the United States and abroad to increase
their business bottom line. He assists professional farriers and
horse owners throughout the country with challenging cases and
problems. He has written hundreds of articles, has served on numerous
state and national committees for humane horse care, and has spoken
at many national horse symposiums in both the United States and
other countries. He organized the popular Farrier Focus® continuing
education business conference, which is held annually. Dr. Butler
is also a motivational speaker and has written and just released
a new book on personal ethics, called The Cowboy Code®.
Doug has won many state and national shoeing
competitions, including the North American Challenge Cup Horseshoeing
Contest, and he has
been a member of the North American Horseshoeing Team three times.
He is a Certified Journeyman Farrier by the American Farrier’s
Association and was the first U.S. citizen to become a Fellow by
examination of the Worshipful Company of Farriers of Great Britain.
Only 42 living farriers have the distinction of being awarded the
designation of FWCF. This title is earned by very stringent board
examinations administered by the Worshipful Company of Farriers
in England which has been in existence since 1356 A.D. Dr. Butler
holds a doctorate degree from Cornell University in veterinary
anatomy and equine nutrition.
Dr. Butler currently devotes his time to private instruction and
shoeing. He and his sons Jacob and Peter teach serious students
at the new Butler Professional Farrier School in Crawford, Nebr.
About Jacob Butler
Jacob Butler grew up in the farrier business
and has been shoeing professionally for over 11 years. He is
an AFA Certified Journeyman
Farrier. He has been shoeing horses for 11 years and taught farrier
science and craftsmanship courses at New Mexico’s Mesalands
Community College for four years. Jacob has a special interest
in the anatomy of the foot and has presented several programs at
the American Farriers Association annual conventions. He is co-author
of The Principles of Horseshoeing (P3).

About Peter Butler
Peter Butler has been training horses for 10 years and has been
shoeing for three years. He relates to the beginner, and has studied
and practiced the methods of the masters of horse behavior modification.
He helps students feel comfortable around horses and develop their
horsemanship skills.
